For the second edition of Red Bull Holy Ride, 95 mountainbike downhill riders – including top riders from the Japan Cycling Federation Elite Class and downhill legend Filip Polc – met at the traditional shrine at Mt. Ishizuchi (one of Japan’s Seven Holy Mountains) in Saijo City, for one a most unique mountainbike downhill event. Tom Wehe, A Grinning Turner Rider…

Just the other day, David received an email from Turner Rider Tom Wehe, who had only good things to say about his new 5.Spot. Here is what Tom had to say:

Hi Dave,

Just a line to say hi and Thanks. Just got back from a ~400 mile single-track R&D trip sampling some of the best rides in the area. Moab, Fruita, CB all on board a 5 Spot which I barely got together before the trip.

You out did yourself on this one! Of course I expected nothing but happiness once I would point a Turner downhill but what surprised me the most was how well it climbed. And as you know the areas I went to have some hefty climbs in them! So pedal efficiency is definitely a 10 as well as climbing. Seems like out of the 3 "XC" bikes I have used of yours this one fits the best being an XL. 100mm stem w/ rised bars � no problem = sweet! Seems like going to the tapered headset system and the size bike I was using climbing as well as descending felt extremely predictable. Getting all educated about what's out there as far as headsets are concerned is quite interesting but the folks at Cane Creek gave me the lowdown � waiting on their angle headset now so I can play around a bit more. What might have contributed to the extreme happiness on my part is pairing the frame with the new White Bros Loop fork which seems to compliment the DW link as it reacts and feels the same way if you put the setting on max bleed as the rear. I know you are a Fox man but if you are interested I would love to get you in touch with the president of MRP since I believe you've got to try this set-up � let me know…

I'll send you more feed-back as I am riding the 5 S.

Going into my fourth race of the season, I recognized that lots of� practice time is imperative to being competitive in enduro events. To prepare for Bend, I arrived four days before race day to begin practicing and learning the course. The course was very flat and pedally and obviously catered to XC racers. On race day, I had a solid start but held back in the early turns, knowing that they had been blown out in practice the day before.� After I made it through the log ride and the few drops in the course, I knew I could start to really suffer with out any major consequences. DHR on there way to Crested Butte ProGRT event

 

We have just returned from the Crested Butte ProGRT event. A good time was had by all, and I feel we made a great showing for the team and Turner Bikes. It was fun meeting people on the road who were Turner fans, the trailer made an impression everywhere we went. We were treated to free beer at the Hot Tomato in Frutia by Turner Loyalists, and we offered rides on our 5Spots and the Proto RFX at a number of locations.

I was also able to help a few different riders with small parts for their Turners. A round tube d hanger and a few shock mount bolts went a long way towards reinforcing riders love for the brand. Each time I was met with disbelief when I refused to take any money for the parts.

Mountain Bike magazine tested the limits of this year’s best mountain bikes on Sedona’s toughest trails. And the Turner Sultan came out on top in the Trail 29er category!!

Angel Fire, NM: Chile Challenge MSC #4

Congratulations to Darian Harvey on piloting her DHR to a first place finish in the Pro Women’s DH!

 

Angel Fire was a short trek of about five hours south from Durango. I drove down Friday morning with fellow racer Darian Harvey. Well actually, Darian drove while I caught up on sleep after a late night of prepping bikes and packing. The Super D course was a blast; it had everything including high speed straits, burmed turns, flat loose turns, and of course sweet jumps. Here is a link to a practice run. Angelfire Practice Run

The race started out pretty well. After the first turn I managed to work my way from near last to fifth. I managed two passes� when the course opened up onto one of the ski runs. Hood River: Race #1 of Oregon Super D Series

Memorial Day weekend brought together approximately 250 mountain bikers to Hood River's Post Canyon to race one of Oregon's most epic trails. The course covered a variety of technical terrain that had everything from rocky high-speed descents to sweet, flowing single track. It dropped 3,000 feet in seven miles, and had close to 400 feet of climbing to even the racing field between the baggies and the lycras.

Sunday morning's Super D race run started off great, hitting all of my lines that I had been practicing and not flatting in the high-speed, rocky upper section. All was good until I arrived at the first climb where I was reminded that I had been focusing on Downhill racing for the past five years. Official race time clocked in at 22:52, tying for 5^th place overall despite a surly run-in with a Northwest Douglas Fir that sent my bike half way down a ravine close to the finish.� First place honors went to Oregon native, Nathan Riddle and the complete results of all categories can be found HERE.

This Saturday, we will be out at the Vail Lake resort, which is just a couple miles east of Temecula, CA.

Come out and DEMO a 2011 Turner. We will have the Flux, Sultan, 5 Spot, and DHR on hand to ride on the great Vail Lake trail system.

 

We'll also be setting up the course for the SoCal High School League Race that takes place on Sunday. Loads of volunteer opportunities on Sunday for anyone interested (DEMO is Saturday, HS race on Sunday). See www.socaldirt.com for more information about the SoCal High School League.

Turner Demo with Revo Cycles. Feb 12th @ Cook's Corner

There will be a Turner Demo on February 12th, in Orange County CA. The location to meet up at will be the infamous Cook's Corner and it is sponsored by the newest Turner dealer: REVO Cycles in Lake Forest, CA.
